The JRC and the ENCR Steering Committee are organising a new data call to the European cancer registries, in order to update the cancer data available in the European Cancer Information System (ECIS).
Through a coordinated data call, a common protocol to submit data for both the ECIS and CI5 projects has been drafted. Registries submitting to JRC and agreeing to participate in IARC’s “Cancer Incidence in Five Continents, Volume XII” (Ci5-XII), will have the relevant datasets forwarded to IARC by JRC after validation and standardisation.
Collaborative agreements will be needed to frame the transfer of data to the JRC, including further processing of the data, and a legal framework for the implementation of related research activities. The possibility to submit data will be open as soon as contracts with each registry have been signed.
No immediate action is requested at this stage. Precise instructions on the requirements that will enable contributions from registries to both the ECIS and CI5 projects will be available in September 2021.
Given the efficiencies a single data submission process will bring, we believe this to be an important step forward, and count on your important contribution in due course.
