The Disease Prevention Unit is looking for an epidemiologist with oncological background, to provide scientific and technical support to the European Cancer Information System (ECIS). Interfacing and collaborating with the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) experts is part of the working modalities, aimed at improving the quality, reliability and comparability of cancer data. Up-to-date assessments (and projections) of the cancer burden across European areas is used to steer public health policy making, providing an evidence base for understanding the  effectiveness of cancer policies.
The jobholder will contribute to the harmonisation of cancer-registry data at EU level, in order to streamline the data-collection process for the timely provision of cancer burden indicators in ECIS and contributing to maintenance and further improvements of software tools. S/he will focus on data validation and on analysis/interpretation of cancer registry data. S/he will contribute to the activities in support of the ENCR, of which the JRC hosts its Secretariat.
The
Disease Prevention Unit of the Directorate for Health and Food, supports EU policies in public health for promoting excellence and equality of healthcare in all Member States. The Unit addresses the following areas: health information on cancer and rare diseases, healthcare quality, and health promotion and prevention of non-communicable diseases.
