CANDLE: 2026 annual consortium meeting , 2-3 June, online

The EU-funded CANDLE project aims to support establishment of National Cancer Data Nodes (NCDNs) in member states and associated countries in alignment with the European Health Data Space. Through 5 core functionalities (https://data.europa.eu/doi/10.2777/8011798) these NCDNs will improve the reuse of cancer data for research, innovation and policy making:

  1. Provide tools to improve data quality of cancer data at source
  2. Provide tools for cancer data analysis to be used in secure processing environments (SPEs)
  3. Ensure all cancer datasets have a metadata record in the EU dataset catalogue
  4. Provide advice on common variables for cancer datasets
  5. Capacity building at national level

Additionally, the network of NCDNs is designed to support the European Initiative to Understand Cancer (UNCAN.eu, a federated European cancer research data infrastructure) and European Cancer Patient Digital Centre (ECPDC, a European network of national digital infrastructures for cancer patients).

As cancer registries are an important stakeholder on the national level and in some countries might even be the institute that hosts the NCDN, we would like to provide the opportunity to gain insight into developments from the first year within CANDLE by opening part of our annual meeting for online participants.
