Motivation for standing for election

Working on national population-based cancer registries data coming from one of Europe's smallest but most dynamic population, I would be very interested in sharing insights of challenges and opportunities Luxembourd has in preparing and comparing indicators at international level.

During my potential mandate at the ENCR, I would like to support the training and the promotion of collaboration between cancer registries, and the dissemination of ENCR information for various audiences.

Dr. Claudine Backes is an epidemiologist and the scientific director of the National Cancer Registry of Luxembourg.
Her expertise covers cancer and environmental epidemiology, as well as research into health services innovation. She is the head of the Cancer Epidemiology & Prevention Group (EPI CAN) at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) and the President of the Group for Cancer Epidemiology and Registration in Latin Language Countries (GRELL).
She is mainly interested in "high resolution" studies on care pathways and short and long-term survival, as well as the implementatiob of effective prevention and early diagnosis, by highlighting the emphasis on their impact on science policies.

Claudine Backes is also affiliated with the University of Luxembourg, Lausanne and Geneva, where she conducts research on cancer epidemiology, as well as the implementation of health services and the impact of climate change on health status.

Recipient of a scholarship from the Swiss National Science Foundation, she obtainer her doctorate from the University of Lausanne, and holds a doctoral certificate in public health from the Swiss School of Puclic Health.

Before joining the LIH, Claudine Backes worked at the World Health Organization (WHO) on joint estimates of the burden of ilness and occupational injuries (WHO/ILO of the Work-related Burden of Disease and Injury), both globally and regionally.

A clinical pharmacist by training, graduated from the Free University of Berlin (Germany), she has acquired, over the course of her life, experience in regulatory affairs, data protection and environmental risk assessment within European Institutions.
